It is the main symbol of the city of Banyoles. The lake and its lake basin constitute an environmental system of remarkable value. Many scientists maintain that the origin of the lake’s waters is related to the losses of the Ter and Fluvi\u00e0 rivers. In 1992 it was fitted out for the rowing competition of the XXV Olympic Games.<\/p>\n It contains approximately 560 million liters.
